With the much anticipated World Time Attack Challenge 2013 just around the corner, scores of motoring enthusiasts filled the South Circuit paddock of Sydney Motorsport Park with excitement for the official WTAC 2013 Media Launch. This was the perfect opportunity for the die-hard fans to get up close and personal with some of the fastest time attack cars on the planet.
Nemo, the Champion of WTAC 2012 is back again this year in Pro Class sporting a whole new look. Will they be able to defend their title?
Fresh from setting the new time attack record at Tsukuba circuit in December, Under Suzuki will be back for the third year in the Scorch Racing S15. Making some serious progress with the aero package this year, Suzuki-san will be a force to be reckoned with and has his eyes set on the winner’s step of the podium!
The legendary Esprit Honda NSX from Japan will be competing in the Royal Purple Pro Class this year with the equally legendary Tarzan Yamada piloting behind the wheel. This will be the first venture outside of Japan for the Esprit team and we’re sure it won’t be their last.
RE Amemiya have returned to Sydney Motorsport Park this year with a much more refined and competitive package. The 2012 ‘Hurricane’ RX7 was actually a show car they had built for the Tokyo Autosalon! The Hurricane will once again be driven by Nob Taniguichi.
Representing the Tectaloy drift challenge were Mad Mike’s quad rotor Red Bull Racing RX7 and Tsutomu Fujio’s R34.
Some of the domestic Time Attack cars present at the launch included: GO-PRO Evo, Pulse Racing Evo, Piazza Doro Evo and Fulcrum suspensions WRX STI.
With the new rules and regulations providing a more level playing field, we expect WTAC 2013 to be an even more competitive environment for professional racing teams in achieving the fastest times around Sydney Motorsport Park. We can’t wait for Friday and Saturday to come around to satisfy our visual and aural automotive pleasures!
